Hi Richard,

I just tried the new Sonos app with screen recognition and for me I found it
doesn't read half of the stuff that I get when I turn it off. For example, when
I touch near the bottom where it showed me the currently playing room and what
is/was playing there, without screen recognition I get from top to bottom
(swiping right as I go):

Playing on Bedroom (that was the last place/speaker I played last night)
An Spailpin Fanach, Connie Dover
Output selector button
Play track position at 68% button
Mute bedroom off button
Bedroom volume 30%, adjustable

If I turn screen recognition on, I get this:
Bedroom, An Spailpin Fanach,
Button
Play button
Next swipe I just hear a Voiceover click, but nothing is spoken
Adjustable
30

That's it, no output selector unless that unamed button is it, no indication of
track position and the mute button is not even mentioned, as well as the
"Bedroom volume, 30%, adjustable" slider which actually was just fixed in
yesterday's update, is broken up in that "adjustable 30"
Sonos has certainly made a big mess of this update which is supposed to be so
much better and which according to a Sonos group I joined on Facebook is hated
universally by just about everybody, but they have certainly been fixing a lot
of things, many features which were initially missing have been added back and
Voiceover accessibility is greatly improved although I still think it's not as
good as it was and the simple fact is that the app itself in my opinion really
is a step back. Of course many people complained about the old app as well so
in some ways these companies sometimes thik they should do something and in the
end it's the wrong thing. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out
and where this app is a year from now, but that is a different topic.

Best regards,
Sieghard

How did screen recognition work with your pool control app? If not at all, then
the app is completely inaccessible.
The Sonos app, if you have any sonos speakers, works better with screen
recognition.
I have not found a lot of other apps where it helped. My Arboleaf app for my
scale reads better with it on, but that is about it.
Someone said the weather channel worked better with it.

Hi , yes , I understood that. I was just surprised that with screen

someone else was reporting.

Does anyone know under what circumstances screen recognition works well? In
the pool controller app we are trying to assess, without screen recognition,
the app pretty much says nothing with voiceover. It doesn’t announce the word
“button” or anything.

Thanks,

I suggested you turn screen recognition on for the BARD Mobile App just to see
what it looks like. It is nonsense to actually use if with the BARD Mobile App
though. I thought it would just give you some ideas on how it works and what it
might look like with an inaccessible app. I’d just forget I ever brought that
up if I were you! 😉

I am still trying to understand how this works. It was mentioned in another
thread that someone turned screen recognition on for the Bard app,
specifically, just to see how it acted. Someone else said they did this and
got nonsense from the app. I turned it on for Bard, and when I entered Bard it
said screen recognition on, but acted normally. I understand that this should
not be turned on for apps that work with voiceover, but am just trying to
understand what is going on.

I was trying to experiment with it to see if it might work with the Omnilogic
app for controlling our pool, which isn’t at all accessible once you have
logged in. Unfortunately, we are just at the stage where we are trying to
determine if there is any way to make this app accessible, so the only way we
can really try it is to have our pool service rep connect to someone else’s
pool that uses this controller.

The Apply to Apps is so you can select some apps to automatically load screen
recognition. It is useful once you determine an app works best with Screen
Recognition on.
For me, I set Sonos to load screen recognition automatically.
Also now, my Arboleaf app for my scale.

I’d leave it alone until you determine an app needs Screen Recognition.

Did you try going into VoiceOver Settings, VoiceOver Recognition and turning
Screen Recognition on there.
Make sure it is saying selected in the rotor items section on Screen
Recognition.
Then, going into an app and check the rotor?
