QR codes are similar to a barcode except it looks different, but can be read by
a scanner or camera and you can retrieve a ton of information via a QR code.
For example, a package with some food item may contain a QR code which can
contain entire recipes, all the ingredients of what whatever is in the package
is made of etc.
QR codes are also used if for example you want to set up WhatsApp on your
computer. You download the WhatsApp app from the Microsoft store, during setup
it displays a QR code on the screen and you then open WhatsApp on your iPhone,
go to Settings and select that you want to link another device, you then scan
the QR code on the computer screen and it authorizes WhatsApp on your computer,
all your contacts, chats and everything will be available.
You might also be at some point of interest, maybe a museum or monument and the
sign with all the information may contain a QR code and if you scan it your
smart phone would read all that information to you.
Also, the information on a business card can be coded into a QR code, same for
website addresses or even an entire restaurant menu.
There are tons of applications and ultimately the old barcodes like UPC and
EAN which are used by retailers and in the supply chain will all be replaced by
QR codes which can contain a lot more information.
Below is a summary from Chat GPT, I used Copilot and asked it to give me a
summary about QR codes using 200 words:

QR codes, or Quick Response codes, are a type of two-dimensional barcode that
can store a large amount of data compared to traditional barcodes. They were
first developed in 1994 by Denso Wave, a subsidiary of Toyota, to track
automotive parts during manufacturing. QR codes are composed of black and white
squares arranged in a square grid on a white background. This unique pattern
can be scanned and read by smartphones, tablets, and QR code readers to quickly
access the information encoded within them.
QR codes can store various types of data, including URLs, text, contact
information, and more. They're commonly used for advertising, marketing, and
event
management to direct users to websites, apps, or digital content with a simple
scan. They can also be used for contactless payments, digital menus, and
product authentication.
The versatility and ease of use of QR codes have made them popular in various
industries and everyday life. Their ability to connect the physical and digital
worlds seamlessly has contributed to their widespread adoption and utility in
modern technology.
