I don't use shortcuts, so I asked Copilot if this can be done.

This is what it said. You will have to try it to see if it actually works.

Yes, you can create a shortcut on your iPhone to toggle silent mode. Here's how
you can do it:

1. Open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone.
2. Tap the + button to create a new shortcut.
3. Tap Add Action.
4. Search for Set Silent Mode and select it.
5. Tap the word Turn to reveal a drop-down menu and select Toggle. This
will allow the shortcut to switch between turning silent mode on and off.

Once you've created the shortcut, you can add it to your home screen or use
Siri to activate it. This way, you can easily toggle silent mode without having
to use the physical switch on your iPhone

Subject: creating a shortcut to toggle silent mode

I have been trying to figure out how to do this since getting my 16E. I want
to use my action button for a different need. I have searched everywhere I can
think of and have dug through all the shortcuts and actions but cannot find a
way to do this.

If anyone else can figure this out I sure would appreciate hearing about it. I
would even consider using a backtap gesture to toggle silent mode if that can
be done.
