Thick is not an adjective I would ever use to describe you!
If you want to set the back tap functions to perform an action independently of VoiceOver such as running a shortcut do the following:
Go into Settings, Accessibility, then Touch.
In here there is a Back Tap option.
Double tap here and you will be presented with double and triple tap options and their available actions, one of which is to run a shortcut.
These settings once setup will be performed whether VoiceOver is running or not and so are independent of it and different from the actions available through VoiceOver.
Hope that makes sense. Malcolm Parfitt I was curious so I thought maybe I should try this too. I will reveal how thick I can be; how to you associate the triple back tab with a shortcut? I cannot figure that out.

Yep, I was able to follow
the instructions and then I associated it with a triple backtap
and now I can turn silent mode on and off that way.
I guess I just need to start
using copilot more. :)

I have been trying to figure out how to do this since
getting my 16E. I want to use my action button for a
different need. I have searched everywhere I can think of
and have dug through all the shortcuts and actions but
cannot find a way to do this.
If anyone else can figure this out I sure would
appreciate hearing about it. I would even consider using a
backtap gesture to toggle silent mode if that can be done.
