You actually slide down with one finger from the top of the screen, first tone/vibration is control centre and second is notification centre. As I said, the old way still works as well, touch the status bar and slide 3 fingers from the middle or bottom up the screen for Control Centre or touch the status bar and slide 3 fingers down for Notification Centre. I have a 16 pro and all these gestures work for me and obviously the do for others since I have not seen a single post that it didn't work since iOS 18 came out last September. What I think you may experience is that Control Centre has changed and it can now contain a lot more and can be customized a lot more. I can't remember if screen orientation was in there for me by default, but Control Centre also may have more than 1 page now. In order to delete stuff you don't want, just swipe down on any of the items in control centre to "Edit Controls", then double tap. This is very much like what you do when you want to drag or delete an app. Once you double tap "Edit Control", you have the following choices and you can swipe down or up to move through them: Activate, default (this is where you land so you don't hear this unless youo swipe down and back up Stop Editing Controls Delete, obviously if you have something in control centre you don't want, you can touch it and then swipe to delete and double tap and it will be gone Resuize to 1 by 1 Resize to 2 by 2 Show Controls Gallery Drag followed by the name of the item you are on, e.g. if you are on Bluetooth, it will say "Drag Bluetooth". Note that Airplane Mode, Air drop, Wi-Fi and More Controls in the top right should be there by default and it's a little 2 by 2 square square grid and you can't delete or change these items individually. If you are in Edit Controls and touch at the top right it will simply say "Connectivity" and this contains these items and if you tap the "More Controls" icon you get other choices like Cellular Data, Personal Hotspot, VPN etc. Basically anything which has to do with connectivity.
The resize options can be different for different controls, some things can be 1 by 1 or 2 by 1 or 1 by 2, but not 2 by 2 or 4 by 2. Think of your screen as a grid, basically it's just like your home screen which can contain a maximum of 4 apps/icons in each row from left to right and there can be a total of 6 rows (not counting the dock). Each app/icon would be 1 by 1 and just like widgets can take up a square 2 apps/icons wide and 1 high or 2 wide and 2 high, so you can make certain items in control centre larger. I have mine set up as follows: The top 2 rows all 1x1, e.g. I have 4 items as follows from left to right: Row 1: Airplane Mode, Air Drop, Bluetooth, Lock Orientation Row 2: Wi-Fi, More Controls, Screen Mirroring, Level As I explained, the 4 items, Airplane Mode, Air Drop and beneath that Wi-Fi and More Controls are in their own 2 by 2 "Connectivity" square so while it looks like they are individual 1 by 1 sized items, they are actually in a 2 by 2 grid and if you started swiping right from the top left, Airplane Mode, you would actually go first right to Air Drop, then down to Wi-Fi and then right to More Controls, only then would you go back up to the top row, third item which is Bluetooth, then Lock Orientation at the top right and after that back down to row 2, third place (Screen Mirroring) and finally Level at the right position of row 2. Below that in row 3 I only have 2 items which are 2 by 1, so 2 spaces wide and 1 space high: Focus and Screen Recording Below that I have two large squares for Chat GPT and each of them is 2 by 2 so they are nice and easy to hit when I touch around the middle of the screen. On the left I have "Start Conversation with Chat GPT" and on the right I have "Voice Mode" which starts a voice conversation with Chat GPT. If you kept track, I have now taken up a total of 5 rows on my screen, the top 3 rows are just 1 grid high and the Chat GPT icons are 2 high. Since there is no dock on the control centre screen, you can actually have up to 8 rows of icons/controls. For me in row 6 and 7 and taking up the left and second to left spot I have another 2 by 2 gird for Recognize Music. On the right side of Recognize Music I have Remote as a 1 by 1 in row 6 and Scan Code underneath in row 7. Lastly, across the bottom I have Flashlight on the left and Stop Watch on the right, both as a 2 by 1 size. I also have then 3 more pages, page 2 is just the Translate app just as a single large item, page 3 are my media controls and page 4 are my Home Kit items, e.g. all the lights in different rooms, our locks etc. When I first started I deleted everything which was there and then I started out adding what I wanted and in the layout I wanted. To do this you use the "Show Controls Gallery" or there is also an "Add Controls" button at the very top left of the screen, it's actually in the status bar as far as I can tell and right beside it is a Power button which is another way you can use to shut down your iPhone. Just pick whichever item you want from the list of available controls and then you can drag it, resize it or do whatever you want. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Kathy Blackburn Sent: Wednesday, March 26, 2025 7:28 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: How to lock screen orightation I called Apple Accessibility.
