I’m updated to the latest version of ios, and I heard text messages that came in with the alert sound I chose on my phone with no issues. I did get the vibration letting me know I had a text message. The only reason why I didn’t hear that sound was because I was on a phone call.

Which version of iOS are you running? That is always important. I am still able to hear the notification sound when a text message or anything comes in.
