Also, if memory serves as it's been a few years ago now, but my old original iPhone SE started acting kind of funny after the battery got below 80%, say around 77% or so. It would still work, but the battery drained much more quickly, and it would sometimes just shut off and/or restart on its own, so I finally just quit using it. Of course phones can be different, but Apple does recommend the battery replacement once the battery gets below 80%.

Yes, if you are leaving the phone on, it will run down. Another issue is since your phone is no longer connected to a network, it will spend lots of time and phone energy trying to connect to a non-existent network. My iphone 8 did that and was always running down really quickly once I got my Iphone 15. Once you create a new line for the phone, this issue should improve. In the meantime, try putting the iphone in airplain mode when you are not using it. That also helps because it stops the phone from searching for networks.

Hi Janet,
When you say that you’re not using your phone for a few days, do you actually power it off or do you just lock the screen and you’re not using it? If you’re not completely shutting the phone off, your battery will in fact go away. It will drain down to nothing. Been there done that. If you accidentally leave the screen unlocked of course, it will be faster draining. But if you just leave your phone with the screen locked for a day or two your battery will run down. So, power it off completely when you’re not going to be using it for a few days. You can also probably get a new battery installed in that phone which would give you back to 100%. I don’t know what a new battery for that phone would cost. But if you are turning the phone off and then turning it on in a few days and it went from 100% to zero, Then there’s definitely something going on that shouldn’t be. And then probably you do definitely need a new battery. Good luck.

Hello Everyone,

I have my old XR iPhone, and I want to keep it as my second phone as a backup.

The problem I have with the phone is it keeps losing the battery  charge even though I’m not currently using it, and I haven’t used it since December of 2024.

The battery health on the phone says it is at 81 percent when it is charged, it also says the battery level is at its normal peak as when it was new, so I again charge the phone, but when I put the phone away for a few days, and I check the phone battery the battery is completely dead.

I didn’t use to have this much problem with the battery on the phone when I used it daily.

Can someone please tell me what causes   the battery to lose charge like mine is doing?

I’ve checked everywhere on the phone through the setting App to see what might be running in the background, and I can’t seem to find anything that would cause the phone to lose the entire charge.

I want to call my phone carrier to get a second line, but not the way the phone batteries are losing charge like they are.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all in advance.

Kindly,

Janet.
