Richard, Favourites in the Phone app are not the same as contacts you add to the VIP group/mailbox in the Mail app. In order to add somebody as a VIP in the mail app, do the following:
1. Open the email from the person you want to add 2. Where it says “From”, double tap on their name, then do it a second time and a screen opens which gives you the following options: At the top left and right you have “Done” and “Edit”, respectively. Swipe right and you hear information for that person, e.g. their title if you added on and their name Swipe right again and you get “Message”, continue to swipe right and the following additional options are available: Call, button Video, button Mail, button Contact photo and poster Next is their phone number, e.g. Mobile, +1 (123) 123-4567 Facetime Facetime Video Call, button Facetime Audio call, button Email (this is followed by their email address) Notes and a text field which may be blank or not if you added any notes Finally near the bottom: Add to VIP, button Block this contact, button Search mail for contact, button Sent Message, button Share contact, button Add to Favourites, button When I first get to that page with my iPhone 16 Pro and I touch at the very bottom of the screen, I am on Notes, here I only have to swipe once to get to Add to VIP. I assume if you had a larger phone like a Pro Max, Add to VIP might be already visible at the bottom of the screen. You can create a ringtone for that individual contact, and a text tone. Which I think then is applied when you receive an email from them, but I'm not 100% sure as I have not added anyone for several iOS versions. You can set up an individual ring tone as well as text notification tone for a contact, but I don’t think you can assign email notification tones on a per contact level. One thing you could do is add those people where you want to hear a different email tone as a VIP contact and I know you can assign a specific tone for people in the VIP group.
