Very observant Sieghar, as indeed I am using gMail and have imap too I
should addd.
As I have an account already created on Windows I didn't want to be
adding in fields that were not at all necessary.
I will delete the mail app again and start afresh and trust that will
work out this time.
I see that there is also the gMail app which actually works fine bgbut I
prefer Apple mail on my phone if possible.
Thanks for clarification,
Tony

Typically you first need to choose what sort of account you want to add, e.g.
Gmail, Microsoft Outlook, Exchange etc.
Since you have a Gmail email address, I assume you are adding that account,
once you picked Gmail, you should only need to enter your Gmail email address
and then the password.
That of course is assuming you are not still using the POP3 protocol, not sure
if Gmail still allows it, but if it still is possible and that is what you use,
then I would highly recommend you change this and start using IMAP.

I'm aware of Apple assistance Richard but what I want to know is what are the
steps that I need to fill in?
Thanks,

Try going to settings, apps, mail, and adding your account information there

Subject: Getting the Mail to work
Hi folk,
I want to have Apple Mail as my default email client but I can't appear to get
it working.
I go to the Emails app and choose Mail as my default, insert the correct
password but no joy I'm afraid.
Is there anything I myself need to do to activate Mail?
Do I need to do anything else as I have entered my email address and
user name also
Thanks,
Tony
