Hi Reggie, Yes, you do need a subscription for these services. I don't think Hulu is available in Canada so I can't comment on the accessibility of their app, but the Netflix app does definitely have it's challenges. It does, however, work rather well on the Apple TV so if you have one of these you can access it that way and since an Apple TV is usually connected to a TV or home theatre system it is a better way to listen to a movie anyways. I am not quite sure what you mean by "will I need more memory to use on the phone", Netflix and to my knowledge Hulu are streaming services and don't allow for any downloads which means you can use them even on an 8 Gb iPod Touch Third Generation.
