Cheryl and Rob,
I would like to apologize for any confusion about the orientation of
BrailleTouch. The website previously had the wrong wording based on an
earlier prototype, and I have since corrected it. I'm sorry about that.
The orientation will hopefully become much clearer when the app is
released and you can actually try it out. But I will do my best to
explain it here.
The standard orientation of BrailleTouch is in landscape, with the
screen facing away from you, and the home button on your right. This
will work for everyone. Please note that, because VoiceOver does not
know you have your screen facing away, it will announce "Landscape. Home
button on the left."
When you have the app, you can easily verify the orientation by typing
an A with your left index finger. If VoiceOver says "A", everything is
good. If VoiceOver says "Capital" it thinks you pressed dot 6, so you
can flip the phone over to the other landscape orientation. Of course
you also have the Home button as a tactile landmark, which you can feel
with your right hand if you are holding it in the standard orientation.
If you do not lock your phone in portrait mode, BrailleTouch will work
in both landscape orientations. You are free to flip it either way, and
the keyboard will rotate for you.
I hope this helps. This is harder to explain in words than it actually
is to do in practice.
Best,
Caleb

Where on the web page did you get your quote? This is just plain weird and extremely
confusing. Here I am copying and pasting from the website from the link that says
"user guide" but I put quotes around it. i copied and pasted this quote less
than five minutes ago.
"Now pick up your phone and turn it in landscape orientation, with the long side
going from left to right. Flip the phone around so the screen is facing away from you,
with the Home button on your right."
Now here is what you apparently took from the website:
"Now pick up your phone and turn it in landscape orientation, with the long
side going from left to right. Flip the phone around so the screen is facing
away from you, with the Home button on your left."
Anybody can see, hear or read with their fingers that these two quotes, both
purportedly taken from the website's user guide, are exactly opposite in their
placement of the home button! What is going on here? Even though I am looking
forward to the introduction of this app and plan to try and probably buy it, i
am becoming rather unimpressed with the confusion around this topic. Then throw
in Caleb's comment that it only matters which way the home button is if you
have your phone locked in portrait mode and you add another layer of confusion.
