Yes, I am using less than 2 GB of my iCloud space, only set it up in
December because I did not want to use too much either, then my husband lost
his phone at the hospital and did not have I cloud, in order to give him
back some things, I set mine up and we restored his phone from that, then he
could change whatever he needed to his own info or remove it. He had a
backup on his computer but he was not home.

So when he complains to me that he has an app he never put there I tell him
if he had backed up properly he would not have my apps and that he can
delete whatever does not suit him. Not quite the way it was meant to be
used but it worked.

Sherrie, don't worry. You get something like 5 GB for free and before they
can charge you, you have to double tap on settings, iCloud, storage and
backup, change storage plan. It's nice too because you also can see how
much free storage you have. And if you decide you would like more, their
prices really aren't bad. It's a once a year fee. Now that I see they
want15 bucks a year to triple the free storage to 15 GB it really isn't all
that bad.

My iPhone lost everything because I accidentally unplugged it from the
computer too soon during the IOS upgrade process. It then told me I needed
to restore the iPhone. I did this from iTunes and, thank goodness, it
restored everything. I was surprised that iTunes had stuff backed up I
didn't realize.

It even remembered most of my original settings. This was great since I
don't use the iCloud backup.

I really don't know how the iCloud works ad all and I don't want to be
charged without my knowledge so I just leave it alone. So I am relieved that
iTunes does a good job backing up my phone.

If you have a backup saved in iTunes then you can get it back or at least
the restore will be as new as the backup date. If you didn't, then you may
be out of luck.

If you had backup turned on in settings, then you should be able to do a
restore from that backup and those are made once a day.

Subject: Lost all iPhone data

Hi all,

I was trying to install iOS 6.1 today. My phone got stuck in the recovery
mode.
I took it to the Apple Store and they restored it and now it's working.
However, I lost all my data on account of the restore.
Is there any way at all for me to recover my contacts, etc?

The guy at the Apple Store said that I should try restoring the iPhone
with the help of the iTunes application on my laptop. He said that
that might help to restore the data.
I haven't been able to do that, though, because iTunes just doesn't
recognise my iPhone.
Whenever I go to iTunes on my Mac, all that I see are a few options
like previous, play, next, mute, full volume, etc. I believe that it
opens a playlist called 'ringtones' whenever I go to iTunes.
It doesn't react at all when I plug my iPhone into my Mac.

I have tried to quit iTunes several times and have tried many other
things, but it still only shows those options like previous, play, etc
and not the full menu which it normally shows when the iPhone is
connected.
It normally reads options like summary, etc when the iPhone is
connected and you can then select the restore button to restore the
iPhone.

Cutting a long story short, I have 3 basic questions.
1. Is there any way to restore the data that I have lost?
2. Will restoring my iPhone with the help of iTunes help in any way to
restore the data?
3. If yes, then how on earth should I get iTunes to detect my iPhone
and then restore it?

Best,
Rahul
