Hi Donald, When you started to set up the account, i.e. after you click on "Add Account", you should see a list of account types. Among them would be Exchange, Gmail, Windows Live, Yahoo etc. Select "Other" at the very bottom. On the next screen you have to select "Add Mail Account" as this Other option also let's you configure other stuff. Now you get the initial setup screen where you can enter your full name, email address, password and what you want to call the account. Fill out these fields and then double tap "Next". On the next screen you then have the option to set up the account either as IMAP or POP. Select POP. Now fill in the rest of the fields like the incoming and outgoing mail server, your user name which may not be the same as your email address depending on your provider. The password field still has the correct entry from the first screen so you don't have to fill that out again.
Hope this helps, Sieghard -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Donald L. Roberts Sent: Tuesday, February 5, 2013 1:31 PM To: Viphone Subject: Setting up a new Pop3 account I hope to get some straight forward info regarding how to set up a Pop3 email account on my iPhone 3GS. In the past, with a couple of exceptions, the only responses I have received have been to praise the superiority of Imap over Pop3 or else asking me to supply the port numbers. I know the port numbers and security settings, and I prefer pop3. Please would someone provide straight forward info as to how to do this. The account I wish to set up is with Pacbell.net, so I didn't need to check out Yahoo, Gmail, or any of the others. I have gone into settings, mail and contacts, add account and other. There I have successfully entered my name, my user name, and my password after which I click on the continue button. At that point, Imap appears to be the only account type choice. It does appear however that if I go into the advanced settings, I can change the port numbers and perhaps other parameters. I would appreciate knowing just what I am missing. Thanks for any assistance regarding this issue. Don Roberts -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the "VIPhone" Google Group.
