Hey David,
Sounds great but I have to tell you I'm not the type of person who would
like to have to pull his pants down on the street to fish my phone out.

Hey, thanks, David.
Maybe I'll give that a try.
Do you put it on your left / harness-holding side or the right?

I have my iPhone in a case which is slightly grippy. I usually wear
shirts
with collars. My shirts are usually tucked into my trousers. With all the
above being the case, I place my iPhone face-up on my shoulder under my
shirt with the collar against the lower part of the phone. Of course, I
have
already set up the navigation app (usually Apple Maps nowadays). The
iPhone
is slightly tilted against my neck and the speaker is directed toward my
ear. As I use a guide dog, my arm and shoulder are quite stable. Besides,
if
the phone slides off my shoulder it drops between my shirt and my back,
and
is stopped by my trousers.

David,
I'm curious how you manage to get the speaker securely near your ear. I
have thought this is something I would prefer at times, but I can't
figure
out a secure way to do that.
Thanks. Keith

Just set maps to track with headings, use Ariadne, or use the new iMove
app (which I find to be a bit too wordy).

Hi David that's interesting about where you put the iphone. on my apex
of
course there is a strap which you put over your shoulder so when carrying
my
piano tuning bag to clip the iphone near your ear will make it better. so
if
your gps system keeps anouncing where you are that's a great help.
I find when on a bus say I do not put a route in the gps as the bus
goes
round estates I just put in a destination and have anouncments to where I
am.
Now when I get off the bus I put in a route to the house where I am
doing
the piano tuning.

I connect my Bluetooth Braille display to my iPhone and use it the
same
way whilst walking, or i tuck my iPhone under my shirt collar so the
speaker
is near my ear. I also use a guide dog, and can easily hear the speech
even
in high traffic. There are also Bluetooth speakerphones which can be
purchased and carried in a similar fashion.

hi there very interesting point about flicking a screen when walking.
my guide dog is brilliant but i must say with the iphone or the android
when
walking if i have to do anything on the screen it is a real pain when
walking. i am one of the very fortunate people who can use the apex with
sendero gps and with the device over my shoulder i have the braille at my
right hand. today walking on a dual carrige way it was impossible to
hear
my iphone gps but with the braille on the apex all was well. i knew
where
the small gap was that i had to find to the park but of course grace
found
it but again it was good to know it was coming up. i wonder if anyone on
the list uses the android gps with a braille display this of course would
make it a lot better to use when walking but again which people say on
the
list the cost of a braille display is very expensive. what about a voice
activated gps but again in heavy traffic it would not work. all the
interesting stuff though.
