Hi,

i am delighted to see people's interest in the StandScan Pro, however,
after having had one for a month now and experimenting with it, also,
comparing it with the ScanBox, I must say that the major difference between the
two is the potential power of the lighting that comes with each unit. The
ScanBox only has a 9 volt battery, whereas, the StandScan can be souped up to
12 volts by using either the mains cable with transformer or by using the 12
volt battery case which you have to order as an add-on. I made a mistake when I
ordered my unit and didn't buy the extra battery case and so can only get 12
volts of lighting when plugged into the mains. I am going to order the 12 volt
battery case today whichshould give me the extra umph that I would need when on
the go.

I cannot stress enough the importance of this extra power. Visually, when
you compare the 9 with the 12 volt lighting, the difference is dramatic and
only the 12 volt lighting will provide an absolutely reliable scan regardless
of all other factors. When the ambient lighting is good, you could even use the
box with no lights, of course, but as we are looking for something that is
going to render reliable results in all situations, we definitely need the 12
volts.

So, for anyone considering buying the StandScan Pro, can I suggest that you
buy the extra backup battery holder that takes several pencil batteries, I
think you will find it worth the extra few bucks.

    Happy scanning, Sandy.
