Hi Sieghard,

I am sure you are right and that there are better lights to be had.
However, to work with the StandScan, they would have to be a sort of strip
light and flat so as to allow the box to fold flat. I know nothing about these
things, but can only assure you that the difference between the 9 volt battery
power output and the 12 volt mains output is dramatic. The former will,
probably, work in most reasonable light situations, but the 12 volt output will
allow the StandScan to work in all situations, regardless of the ambient
lighting or accidental shadows. I would hate to see people disappointed after
having trumpeted the usefulness of this accessory to the iphone and encouraging
people to go ahead and spend cash on it. I don't know which batteries, other
than that they are referred to as "Pencil" batteries. Indeed, I suspect I could
use my Turbo Charger to the same effect, but it doesn't have the right sized
adaptor. If you purchase the StandScan, perhaps, with your knowledge, you will
be able to advise us in this regard? If I knew the names of these connectors, I
could look for one to link my iPhone battery back-up to the StandScan and,
perhaps, get my 12 volts without the need to purchase the extra battery case or
the cost of buying more batteries.

I see we are still at the early stages with all this, but I can say that
with the 12 volt output and the box itself, we do now have a solution which
should work for everyone.

I am aware that I have been lucky using Prizmo et al, and that some people
might have the idea that this box might not be so user friendly for them,
especially if they have had bad experiences when trying to scan free-hand, so I
will take my StandScan Pro round some friends houses and try them with it, just
to reassure myself that using it is not skill based, but, in all honesty, I
don't think it is!

I look forward to your future input re the lights etc, it is good to have
so many different people with different professional backgrounds here on the
list so that we can empower ourselves.

    Ciao for now,
    Sandy.
