I was under the impression that all iPhone models always present a slide to power off confirmation after you press the power button on the top for about three or four seconds. Are you saying that this is not the case with the iPhone 5? It seems to me that after you press the power button for about three or four seconds you will have to double tap to confirm the power off. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
