Hi, Sieghard, Just to clarify for others, I do not get the message about
voice memos when transferring purchases. I only get it when Syncing, and
this is how it should be. I just wanted to make sure I was on the right
track here.

Hi Neil,

You are correct, but as "Transfer Purchases" implies, it deals strictly with
purchases and your voice memos are not purchases. If you purchase an app,
song or other media on your iPhone and you don't have automatic download
enabled in iTunes which means whatever you buy is not also downloaded to
iTunes, you do have to transfer purchases. I have often wanted to do a sync
and received a message that there were purchased items on my phone and do I
want to transfer them to iTunes.

Regards,

Sieghard

Subject: What's the difference between sync and transfer purchases

Hi, an elementary question I am sure, but I have had mixed answers. Some say
that Syncing copies things from iTunes to the phone. And transfer purchases
copies from the device to iTunes. Trouble is, this is not my experience.
When I sync, I am asked if I want to transfer voice memos from my device to
iTunes. So, it is obviously not just transferring things from iTunes to the
phone.

My original understanding was the sync went both ways and transfer purchases
copied information about the things I purchased on my device into iTunes.

Anyone care to enlighten me on this mystery? I thank you for doing so.
