I had this same issue recently and it was driving me nuts. In addition to turning stuff off on the phone, sing into facebook and check under your settings to see what your notification settings are. I turned everything off so now I don't get notified about anything. It's not totally satisfactory as I would like to get certain notifications, but I couldn't seem to find the ideal combination of settings.
