getting Facebook notifications every minute or so and the notifications

Facebook is not appearing in my notification center, which is fine by me.
I can't get the notifications to shut off. Short of turning off VoiceOver
or uninstalling the Facebook app, what's the best way to get rid of them?
If I set the notification style so that there are no alerts, will that
get rid of the banners, too?
