Hi Sandy, You did not too badly with my name, just forgot the "h" in the middle, it's "Sieghard, just think of "hard" at the end as in "I'm such a tough guy" *smile*
Anyhow, I only have used Talking goggles for packages so far and I find it does an excellent job in many cases and it's fast. It seems to pick up stuff which in many cases tells me enough to know what it is without having to find the barcode. In the most recent update the developer included an option for Voiceover users to turn off the app voice. The settings for Goggles are not in the app, but accessessed via the iPhone Settings app. Just go to Settings and scroll down to the apps section, for me Goggles is right after Twitter and Facebook and before Audible. You have 3 options: Save Captured Image - this is an on/off toggle Speak Out - also an on/off toggle and if it is off, only Voiceover will speak in the app. Performance - this is a button and you can choose "Fast", "Balanced" and "Best". I believe Balanced is the default, I just changed it to Best to see what difference it makes. I'll maybe try and do some specific testing using the Standscan just for consistency sake, but I wonder if Prizmo or Text Grabber are able to recognize the writing on some packages since packages often have pictures, coloured text, coloured backgrounds etc. Best regards, Sieghard -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Sandratomkins Sent: Thursday, May 23, 2013 7:52 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: OCr of white text on coloured image. Hi Siegard, (think I forgot how to spell your name there, sorry!) I just tried it several times with Talking Goggles and while it seems that it can read the text quite well, I only get about 5 seconds of speach before it cuts off. So, only time enough for 2 or 5 words, depending. I always feel that this app could be excellent for reading on the fly, but with the restrictions of time etc, it doesn't do much for me. Also, I would love not to have to listen to that voice, wish we could always default to VO if we want. I can understand developers introducing voices for mainstream apps, as people in general aren't using VO, but for apps designed with VO users in mind, I am not sure of the thinking. So, in short, Talking Goggles, for me, is more of a potential than an actuality. Tell me otherwise, show me where I am going wrong and I will try again! Sandy.
