with azw extensions and one is 15MB and the other is 26MB. I assume
this is their original and complete format so I'm not really sure what
you mean. The filenames are a bit cryptic since they contain no title
but just a book number. I don't disagree with your assessment of the
Kindle for PC program but it seems once you've downloaded it, Amazon
keeps track of that and gives you the option to save a new Kindle
purchase to either your iDevice or your PC. At least it did for me.
There was a pretty good thread on this issue from Neal Ewers a while
back but I guess you missed it.

Alan, I'm talking about storing the books on your computer in their
origenal format not as a book number. You've paid for the book so why
can't you keep it on your computer and back it up to DVDEs in the
origenal format. I had the Kindle reader accessible version on my
computer and didn't think much of it.

Actually, if you have the Kindle for PC program installed, Amazon
should give you an option to download the Kindle book to your PC or
your iDevice. I have a folder called My Kindle Content that has Kindle
books in it. Of course, they are named with numbers so you can't tell
what they are by title but they are on my PC.

What I don't like about the Kindle app is, your books get stored in
the Kindle cloud. You can either store them on your device or in the
cloud but you cannot store them on your computer. That means you
cannot copy them to your external hard drive. The cloud is fine as
long as you have access to it.
