New messages should show up in your in box. A rule or Gmail's spam
filter might send it into another folder though. Have you checked your
spam folder? Do you have multiple accounts set up in your phone's mail
client? If so, have you checked the other in boxes?
I'm not sure what you mean when you assume your new messages are mixed
in with the rest of the garbage. Are you referring to the Trash folder?
I'm not sure why you'd assume this, like I said, it should end up in
your in box and not the Trash folder.

No I do not have any rules setup, when I am in the trash folder and the phone

I don't understand your question. The only messages that should show up in your
Trash folder are those messages you've moved there or the messages you've
deleted. Are you talking about a rule you've set up to move certain messages
into your Trash folder?
I don't know what you mean when you say all you get is unread. You'll have both
read and unread messages in your inh box and any other folder, although
typically you'll only have unread messages in your in box.

Hi Simon,
Can you rephrase this and explain a bit more? I am not sure I understand
your issue. Voiceover clearly says if a message is "unread" and no message,
read or unread, should go to the Trash folder simply when you open the Trash
folder.

Sieghard

Hi how do I prevent my new messages from going to the trash when opening
that folder? It's not easy to know which messages you have read or not.
