Your better to be further away from the microphone than too close to it. If your really close it will not pick it up correctly as you will likely breathe on the microphone etc. I have had times when siri recognises me across a room better than it does close up. Also, people who are not used to voice recognition feel they have to speak in a slow robotic voice. Just speak normally but not really fast, just average speed.
