I find Digit-Eyes to be very useful. It takes me on average about 30 seconds to identify most items. I am totally blind. Once you get used to about where the barcodes are going to be and about how far away from the package you need to hold the camera, it works great! But, nothing will compare to the speed of a designated barcode scanner like the ID Mate.
