Alan, if you don't necessarily want a case with an on board charger, you might want to consider an external charger like the Incredicharge.

I can charge my phone for several times on a single charge. I can also use my phone while it's charging on the Incredicharge. It has two USB connections as well as a built-in micro USB cable so I can also charge my Booksense Standard, my Aftershokz headphones or my Sansa Clip zip and still be using the phone while all three are charging on the same charger.

I got it at Amazon for about $27 and free shipping.

It's not the most accessible, at least not for me because the LEDs used to indicate charging status are very small. Still, I liked the idea of having something that would charge multiple devices at once or my phone for more than one time.

More info is at:

I may look like a nerd on the outside, but on the inside... Okay, yeah, I'm a nerd.

There are more kinds of cell phone chargers out there then just what Apple offers. I have 1 such charger made by iGo. It's only a 1800 mAh battery with 2 USB ports. It's smaller then a deck of playing cards but can recharge a dead iPhone. There is a recessed charge button that when pressed starts the recharge cycle. You use your phone's sync/charge cable and when you view the battery status in the top right-hand corner it says the present status and charging. When charging is complete, the battery disconnects. You can actually be walking down the street talking on your phone wile it's recharging. I have used the charger to recharge both my wife's and my iPhones. Granted, it charges slower that way but left charging over night it will get the job done. It also has the flip out AC wall plug so you can use it as an AC source for 2 devices. I'm told but have not seen it that iGo also has the same thing but that they add the ability to charge the 1800 mAh battery via solar giving you a wide range of choices. So I'm thinking that with a 1800 mAh rechargeable battery solar charger and an AC plug, that should pretty much cover anybody's recharging needs. Even with out the solar part, the battery is small enough to Cary in a pocket or purse and still pull you out of a tight spot when you find your iPhone a wee bit short.

This small of a battery is great for the iPhone. I doubt though it would be of any use with an iPad but sense I don't own one I can't speak to that. Radio Shack, big box stores and only God knows who else offers recharge solutions. You can also read about new gadgets in iPhone Life magazine. They also have a free app that is accessible. Our friend Todd Burnheart writes for them every now and then and always has a peace well worth reading.

 Hi Alan,

What exactly do you mean by |"so I can also use it as a power supply"?

The only battery I have seen so far which has the wall plug that folds away is the MyCharge Peak 6000. I assume maybe you mean by your statement about using it as a power supply that you want something that charges your phone while it is also plugged in and charging. I have to try on my Peak 6000 whether it does that, I know for sure that this so-called "through charging" is not supported by the Limeade series of batteries which have been discussed here.

 Sieghard

I'm looking for another charger that has USB ports as well as a good size battery but I want flip out wall prongs to so I can also use it as a power supply. I don't care if it talks or not. I can tell if it's charging by the battery meter on my iPhone. Anybody know of any good ones?

 Thanks!

   Hi.

I have bought the limeade 18000 and I got it the day before yesterday. I like the battery very much.

You can use which cable you would like on the limeade 18000.

An advantage is that you can charge with a USB charger or a computer.
   Best regards Annie.

> Morning list members after all the talk about external battery packs last week. I wonder if anyone out there has an opinion regarding the following. I am thinking of purchasing either a limeade 18000 or a peak 6000. the one advantage to the peak 6000 is that it has the ability to speak status. Does anyone on the list have a peak 6000? Also, come the end of the year I will be roling over my two year contract and will be getting a new iPhone which I assume will have the lightning connector so I don't want to be tied to a device which has only the 32 pin connectors. I assume both of these packs have the ability to use standard USB plugs with what ever connector at the other end. Thanks to all for the help.
