You may ask AT&T if they'll do it for you. However, since you are not the
original owner, they're not obligated to do under the FCC rules which were
put in place regarding unlocking of phones. &, they probably won't if you
don't have an account with them. Not sure if you do or don't as you didn't
say. However, I think I'd at least ask before I paid to have it done. I'm
not sure with the phone being as old as it is, it'd enhance its sellability
though.

My first iPhone was a 3GS which is locked to A T and T. I know of a
reputable online business which will unlock it for $24.95. I am wondering
whether its resale value will be significantly improved if I invest the
money to unlock it. As I am not the original owner of the 3GS, it seemed
like an exercise in futility to contact A T and T about the unlock,
although the phone's original owner completed all the terms of the
original purchase agreement.
