Sean, It will make all the difference in the world. If I were considering a used iPhone 3GS, 4 or even 4S, I would never in a thousand years want to buy a phone which was not already carrier unlocked. The resale value will be accordingly higher since anybody who knows anything about this would feel the same way. Maybe if somebody gave me a 3GS or 4 for free I'd take a locked phone and then attempt to get it unlocked myself, but I wouldn't even pay $10 for it.
