Hi, I also had the defender case and it wasreally bulky and my phone kind of slid back and forth a little bit which I didn't like. I have the lifeProof and love it! It doesn't muffle sound at all. I have no problems switching from earpiece to speaker phone. I would highly recommend this case. It is also very protective. I have dropped my phone a few times never to hurt the case or the phone.
