I am not sure what you mean by the desktop version of Amazon on your iPhone, but it is definitely possible to use Safari on the iPhone purchase Kindle books on Amazon. My checking account is poorer for it. Smile. Are you sure that you registered the Kindle app properly? Can you go into Amazon on a computer PC or Mac, and see that your Kindle app is registered?
