Hi,

If you're seeing 3g in the status bar where you would usually see the
signal strength of your WIFI connection, you are not actually
connected to WIFI. I agree with others who have mentioned that iOS
won't switch over to 3g if your wireless is problematic, but in every
situation where I've scene this, I've still been given the signal
strength of said wifi network as opposed to 3G.
How long are you waiting for SIRI to respond? Things are always going
to be a bit slower over 3g as a recording of your voice needs to be
sent to Apple for processing.
