Another option if you would like the ability to switch quickly from stereo to 
mono is the LG SVH700 I don't think this is a setting specifically designed to 
switch from stereo to mono playback, but the headset is designed in such a way 
that you can use either earbud and keep the other one tucked away. There's a 
review of it on AppleVis. I have the headset, and really like it. It has many 
playback functions, including volume, pause, previous and next controls; there 
are also extras like being able to mute a call and putting one call on hold 
while you answer a second. Honestly, I've never used any of the more advanced 
functions, though I make liberal use of all the playback controls.
