It's weird if you have unlabeled buttons. The only unlabeled buttons were under the paper tape section, where the button covers the text area of the subsequent text. So if you ignore the unlabeled button and flick right to the text, you get to exactly the same navigation controls. Are you in landscape or portrait mode?
This app is most easily used in Portrait mode. That also means the paper tape area -- which is simply the record you can check or email -- is in a pop up and out of the way of the main calculating area.
