Hi, Personally, I have absolutely no idea why you would want to do an erase all content and settings on the iPod, only to update to iOs6 afterwards, where you also have the option of backing up (or in this case not backing up) the settings. Perhaps someone can chime in if I'm missing something.
To make things simple: 1. Connect the touch to a computer and launch iTunes if it hasn't already opened. 2. Update to iOS6 which is the latest version of iOS that this touch can take. Don't back anything up. 3. Setup and then use the touch as per normal. Your wifes email should be unaffected as in no changes will be made to any messages remotely, but the messages on the touch will be removed. Cheers, Ben.
