Hello everyone,

Today, I received my Giraffe Reader for iPhone. This serves a similar purpose
to that of the StandScan Pro, but it does not have any lighting. It is,
however, much smaller and lighter, measuring about 26 cm by 21 cm when folded.

The Giraffe Reader is quicker to assemble than the StandScan Pro as it only has
three sections. Once erected, it consists of a base which is roughly A5 size,
an upright piece which is three sides of a rectangle in cross section, and a
platform to hold the iPhone in place.

It is made of a plastic material that feels like shiny cardboard and is held in
shape by magnets.

There is a video showing how to use the Giraffe Reader at:
<https://vimeo.com/88239540>

Within the euro zone, the Giraffe reader costs EURO 33.25.
In Britain, it costs £30.

You can contact its creator, Sam Jewell at:
[email protected]

I'll paste the result of my first scan using the Giraffe Reader below my
signature. The item scanned is an exam paper for French student nurses who have
to understand English.

Cheers,

Anne

2008, GP figures show. 1 his meanb 070 ui u.
850,000 more have diabetes without knowing it. Diabetes UK says the rise is
largely fuelled by
type 2 diabetes, linked to obesity and unhealthy lifestyles. The survey
combined GP data from
England^Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales to calculate the overall figure of
how many people
in the UK are diagnosed with diabetes.
Type 1 diabetes accounts for about a tenth of cases and occurs when the
insulin-producing cells in
the body have been destroyed.
Type 2 diabetes develops when the insutin-producing cells in the body are
unable to produce enough insulin, or when the insulin that is produced does not
work properly.
Insulin enables the body to use sugar as energy and store any excess in the
liver and muscle.
If this fails, blood sugar rises and this can cause long-term complications,
such as kidney damage.
The NHS spends 10% of its budget on diabetes and 80% of this goes on treating
consequences such as amputation, kidney failure, heart disease and stroke.
