I think the mandatory 10 digit dialing goes into effect nation wide or it
already has. I don't know because I entered in all 10 digits to my contacts so
I could use my phone no matter where I am. The other day on the morning news
show they were saying something about the government was considering going to
14 digit dialing. The reason given was people use to just have 1 telephone in
their homes with extensions but the home phone is all but gone in the United
States and everybody and their sister has a cell phone and many, more then 1.
Some folks carry a work phone as well as their personal phone so it isn't a big
surprise that sooner or later we would have to go to a 14 digit dialing system.

I'm sorry this drifted off the topic at hand.

Regards,

Alan

Alan, although I have not checked on all of them; the contact that got me
noticing this does have an area code, my uncle in California; I would have to
dial an area code to reach him.
Good thought though; unfortunately it doesn’t solve this particular problem.
I know that you probably need the area code for sending texts and so forth.

Did the numbers some numbers not have an area code associated with the phone
numbers? I always add the area code for all my contacts so I can call them no
matter where I'm at and I believe this year you will be required to always call
10 digits even for local calls. It doesn't effect my iPhone because I've been
doing it ever sense I had a cell phone all the way back to the days of the
brick. For those who don't know what the brick was, the very first cell phones
were roughly the size and weight of a brick. No memory, you had to manually
dial everything first and then hit send and minutes cost dollars. Anybody
remember a buck a minute?

All, I was rearranging information, trying to set default ringtones for a
few contacts, and I noticed that some had “notes” as an option where ringtone
would normally be. It did not matter if these numbers were iPhones, other
mobile numbers, home phones, or main numbers.

Can anyone explain this oddity and offer a solution?
