I don't think this is the fault of iTunes since iTunes gets the information about a particular CD from a source on the web, forgot what it's called, but if a particular CD with multiple artists is tagged as a compilation then iTunes will treat it as such and you'll find it in the artist listview under "Compilations" instead of the various artist names. Keith, The first thing to do is go into your preferences in iTunes and set it to show the CD instead of import it immediately. Then, when you put in a CD it will show up in the sources treeview. Once you focus on the name of the CD in the sources treeview, tab to the track list. You can arrow down and listen to see if the artist, genre, etc., are the same on each song. The thing with musicals and other albums where there may be different people singing on different tracks is that they put them in the artist track and iTunes determines what an album is based on the artist and/or the album artist fields. This is one of the more frustrating things about iTunes. In my tiny little brain, the key field should be the album title, but what do I know. Anyway, on albums you find have differing artists on different tracks, you can start with track 1 and bring up the get info dialog from the context menu. Get on the Info tab and you should find a next button as well as all the fields for artist, composer, track name, album, etc. I've seen this behave slightly differently on different machines, so I am not making any blanket statements here as your experience might be different. But, if the album artist field is filled in the same, chances are pretty good all the tracks will show up with that name as the artist and be in one folder on your drive. The other thing to do is make sure all the artist fields are the same and keep the album artist field empty, or the same as the artist field. Once you have done what you want with one track, alt+n will go to the next track and if you are on any but the first track, alt+p will go to the previous track. Of course, when you are on the last track, alt+n won't do anything. You can fix this with albums already imported by searching for them under music by the album title and then when you focus on one track, bring up the get info dialog and, if you are lucky, you will be able to move to the previous or next track on that album and make the adjustments to get it to show up as a single album. To say this is tedious would be an understatement. I've imported close to 500 CD's over the last 4 years. I still have quite a few to go. The key is patience. And, knowing you will mess up and have to fix it. Hi, I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with iTunes Match. I have about 500 CDs to rip. I've had problems with the few CDs I've ripped into iTunes because the key search field apparently hasn't always been tagged consistently. I've ripped CDs from Broadway musicals, for example, that get chopped up into several different albums with random tracks associated with each. I'd like to establish a step-by-step process of putting a CD into my PC drive, then following the process to make sure each CD is properly tagged before starting the rip process. Right now, I put a CD in and the CD gets ripped immediately into iTunes (Automatically add to iTunes Library). Can someone please suggest a process by which I could achieve the above? Will I just need to make sure each Album Artist field is the same? How can I check this? How can I correct if not the same? Is it just a matter of figuring how to check the Compilation button on each album? If so, can you please explain how to do it?
