No, just picking up the phone and putting it to your ear will not pick  up a
call, you do have to use the 2-finger double tap as you said or double tap
on the Answer button.
There is a setting in SIRI which, if it is turned on, is supposed to start
SIRI if you bring the phone up to your ear, but I have never been able to
get this to work although it does apparently work for some people.

Just reading this thread, so the phone will automatically answer a call if
you just pick it up and put it to your ear if it is ringing with an incoming
call?
I have been doing a two finger tap on the screen then answering and putting
