If you will upgrade to a 5 or higher, get a separate pack. Not only are case 
packs form fitting, the 3GS through 4S use the 30 pin connector whilst the 5 
and up use the lightning connector. That said, remember that an external pack 
means you need to carry the pack, and a cable to connect the pack with the 
iPhone. Note: this is what I do. I also use my pack to charge other portable 
devices.
