Bill,

I can't speak for gmail other than to suggest she checks her gmail settings
on the web interface to make sure it is set to use IMAP and not POP.

As for the Hotmail account, she should set it up on her iPhone using the
Outlook.com account type. Hotmail does not use IMAP, it uses Exchange Active
Sync. I suggest she should delete the Hotmail account on her iPhone and then
start fresh. Select Add account, then select "Microsoft Outlook" as the
account type. Make sure she does not use "Microsoft Exchange" or anything
else. After that all she has to do is enter her email address and password.

On the laptop it should set up correctly if she uses Office 2013. She can
just add the account, enter her user name (her email) and password and it
will set up correctly.

If she uses Outlook 2010 or 2007 she needs to install the Outlook Connector
first before she sets up the account. I guess if she tries to set it up and
doesn't have it there should be a prompt for her to install it, but I
recommend to install it first and keep in mind there is a 32 bit and a 64
bit version.

|I occasionally find that an email I delete on my iPhone or on my PC doesn't
delete from the other devices, but typically this happens if an email in my
Inbox is quite old. I would say it works perfectly 99% of the time.

Regards,

Sieghard

Subject: Strange mail issue on iPhone

Hi.

I have a very strange email issue, or rather my wife does. She has a Gmail
account

and a Hotmail account, both loading to her iPhone. They are both IMAP
accounts, and

she has them set up as such on the iPhone. These accounts are not linked to
each

other in any other way. Which is to say, for Gmail does not pull her
Hotmail, or

Hotmail does not pull her Gmail.

When she reads an email on her iPhone, and then goes to the web interface,
the message

shows as read. However when she deletes an email on her iPhone, and goes to
her web interface, the message

is still in her inbox. She is in the inbox folder on the web interface, not
be all mail folder. Also,

she does have her iPhone set to delete messages, not just merely move into
the archive

folder.

If it were just one of the accounts, I would say she has it set up wrong on
the web

interface. But since it's both, I think it has to be with the iPhone. She
gets very frustrated, spending time clearing her inbox on her phone, only to
have to redo it on her laptop the next time she goes to the web interface.
Any suggestions

would be much appreciated.
