I agree with Jerry here, but I'll let the list moderators deal with the
rudeness on the list.
It is true that a lot of information will show up on this list, and even
more information will be made freely available via podcasts on places
like AppleVis.com. There are some people though who would like a well
written and well organized introduction into the new features of IOS 8.
It's much more efficient to go through such a book then it is to slog
through all of the questions and answers that will show up on this list.
It'll be a high traffic list when IOS 8 comes out, many questions will
be repeated, opinions will be stated, subject lines won't be updated,
threads will be hijacked and although it'll be a great resource, it
could be a pretty tedious way to find the few nuggets of new information
someone is particularly looking for in IOS 8.
Jonathan has freely contributed a lot of information to the blindness
community over the years, and I know I've learned a lot from his posts,
his podcasts and his blog articles. I don't have a problem with someone
putting his time and effort into writing a good resource for the blind
and then putting it up for sale. I doubt anyone is going to get rich
writing a book for the blind IOS user. If it's a good resource, and
people are willing to pay for it, then it'll be successful and a useful
tool for those who want to get that information in that format. Not
everyone learns and picks up things in the same way so the more choices
the better. I'm sure there are books for the sighted IOS user, so I see
it as a good thing that we in the blindness community have the same type
of choices.
I know Jonathan is a professional who's been working in the blindness
field for a while, so I'm assuming he will take the high road and not
respond in kind to the post Jerry is referring to below. This is a
public list, and none of us get to choose who is and is not on the list.
We won't like every opinion that's expressed here, so hopefully everyone
will consider the source and let a member express their opinion without
it devolving into a flame war.

I am not trying to start a flame war here but I have to put my opinion in on
this matter. I think that it is very rude what Joseph had said. I don't think
that Jonathan is trying to make money off of us I think he's just trying to
sell a book. You don't have to buy that book if you so desire sir but there may
be other people who do. I wish that people wouldn't make such disrespectful
comments. Because technically, we are very lucky to have this book! Do you know
of any other place we can get this information besides this list and Jonathan's
book? You tell me where to go? And I will go look. But I don't believe there is
any other place. Jonathan has spent countless hours probably, researching all
of this information to bring it to us in a straight forward way. Why disrespect
the guy by saying what you did. That was not right. However you have your
opinion I have mine. I'm just stating mine. I did not mean to start any trouble
I was just saying what I felt. And I will be one who buys
this book. It is only $20. That is not that expensive! It really isn't. Think
about this would you rather spend $20 on something you can use, or spend $20
and something that you may never use? I've known things that people spend at
least $20 on, that they never use. That I've known things like this book, that
people spend money on and do use every day. Just thought I would throw my two
cents in. Jerry Mader
