Hey Guys. I know what you're saying. I have labels all over my house for things that are not accessible, but I don't make my money washing cloths or cooking in my microwave. I know, that doesn't change the small percent of the population we are. I understand that. I also understand that there has been a steady decline in Apple's accessibility. I know this from talking to a lot of Mac users who are now deciding if it is time for them to go back to Windows. Again, I am mostly talking about people whose jobs depend on using their computer or device. Again, that doesn't change the percentage, it was very hard to read that list. There are those who try to brow beat companies into being accessible. I have often thought of them as just whining and crying, oh we poor blind people. AAnd that is what some of them do. Others, take a more coorperative approach. So there are extremes on either side. Some wait for apple to offer them the same magic sighted users have, while others try to convince the company to do a better job. This is what the beta team does. The beta team evidently had some very smart people who were blind on it. No, we still haven't changed the percentage of people who are blind in the world, but they put in a lot of work trying to help Apple develop a product that would work well for us. In other words, there needs to be some people in the blindness community that tries to work against the flow. You may call us impatient if you wish. You may think we don't understand what it is like to not have accessibility at our fingertips. I bet I am older than most everyone on this list. Try having to hire 80 readers in Graduate school who read books on my 12 reel to reel recorders. It took about as much time to organize the readers and the books as it did to read them.
And we still haven't changed the percentage. We never will. But that doesn't mean we don't try to make things more equal. I don't believe there is any shame in that. So, let's not blame people who are pushing the envelope as being whiners and impatient. Some of those people have been the ones to get us where we are today. We just have to deal with it. It took me three months to find an oven I could use. all of them are flat pannels for the controls now; it's just the way things are. we have to deal. We marked the touch panel with dots on the buttons, but I have no way of knowing for certain what I have pressed until it is finished. The same is true with our washing machine and dryer. -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. All new members to the this list are moderated by default.
