There has been some constructive criticism, and some explanations of why
business practices are followed in regards to accessibility not being on an
even keel with what sighted people get in a new release, but I haven't seen
what I think of as flaming.
As for the bug reporting, some people are having problems, others aren't.
Tips on how to get around difficulties or bugs are helpful.

Can we please get back to reporting about the bugs, in stead of flaming one
another?
I am clicking on these emails to read about possible bugs, and all I am
reading is how this person agrees with the new release, or this one doesn't.
This one says it is good they released and another says not.
Please, with the huge traffic coming in, can we please get back on topic?
Thanks.

Of course they got the bug reports and probably fixed what they could
because there had to be lots more. So, you will say, why didn't they fix
them all? Because they had other priorities like paying some attention to
their shareholders who think in dollars and don't give a hoot about our
very small group.
Now, that's why!
So, let's get positive and report these bugs to Apple so they can fix them
as soon as possible. Now that they've met their target release date, they
might just have a little more time for us.

Didn't they (being Apple) receive these Bug Reports from the members of the
"Blind and/or LowVision Community", who participated as Beta Testers for
Apple's iOS8???
Did these people neglect to Report the presence of these Bugs within iOS8?
If not, were they submitted in a timely manner to be addressed prior to
iOS8's Official release?
Last Year, it was access to Apple's iOS App Store, but members of "The
Community" spoke up prior to its release, and were scrutinized for doing so,
but Apple appeared to resolve the issue prior to iOS7's Official Release.

How about marking the microwave with Dymo tape labels? At least you

As for the accessibility of I O S 8, just as with the previous major
upgrade, I'm thinking that Apple, given time and necessary reports from
blind users, will fix bugs.

Wow, what an interesting comparison. In reality, such devices have been
released. The first several devices were not at all accessible to the
blind. Therefore, your argument does not hold up to what actually
happens. The fact is, we are a very tiny group of people.
At work, we have a water filtration system which has multiple settings.
the system announces which type of water is coming out when it is
started. It does not announce the setting when being set.
We have a few pieces of tape on the face of the machine so I can find
the start button.
My microwave oven has no announcements whatsoever. We marked the touch
panel with dots on the buttons, but I have no way of knowing for
certain what I have pressed until it is finished. The same is true with
our washing machine and dryer.
It is unfair to those of us who are blind, but we are not a viable
market for any mainstream product. Therefore, any bugs which effect
VoiceOver only are not major or showstopers for over 99% of Apple's
market
And yet, Apple spends $35 per every iPhone sold for accessibility.
This is what was stated in April at a shareholder meeting by Tim Cook.
This is not an insignificant amount of money.
Now that the beta cycle is complete, send in those bug reports. The
minor VO only bugs can now be worked on more by Apple.
Oh, and as to the question about why doesn't Apple wait until all minor
bugs are fixed? Well, it is impossible to fix all bugs, so Apple would
fall behind as a company if they stop innovating in today's world. The
majority of those who buy products tend to purchase those products with
the most innovative useful features.
For example, we just purchased a robotic vacuum. We found a model which
the base/recharging station empties the dirt from the robot cleaner.
This way, we only need to empty the dust from the bin in the base
station once a month or so. Much better than emptying the robot's
little dust cup after every use. Oh, and the robot needs to be
programmed by the sighted person. It does not have a blind-accessible
interface. Fortunately, the robotic lawnmower we are planning to
purchase next year has an iPhone app that appears to be accessible.

Sorry if you get this twice. My email provider has a few bugs today too.
Smile.
I did not say it had to be perfect, but consider this.
If you were developing a popular product that would drastically
decrease heart attacks, would you release it first with lots of bugs
for people who were blind just because it worked for people who see.
Would your company philosophy be that as long as it works for sighted
people it will be released even though it is not yet ready for people
who are blind? I don't expect it to be perfect, but I see no reason
why it is not just as stable for me as it is for my wife. Why am I
assumed to be impatient if I think people who are blind should have
equal access? Equal access means it works equally for both populations
when it is released. I think that is a reasonable assumption.
By the way, I did send a similar email to apple.

I think that you are far, far, far too impatient. You expect it to
work perfectly, the very first time out of the box, not even
considering all of the work it has taken to produce such a major and
complicated overhaul. Did version 7.0 work perfectly the first time?
Not hardly. It took a while to get the bugs worked out, but they did
it. So, rather than immediately whine and complain, how about giving
them a bit of slack? Give them time to work the bugs out, just like they
did after releasing version 7.0?

If people who are sighted had this many bugs with the new OS, Apple
would not have released it. I am tired of developers thinking that
they can release something to the public and then, if they have time,
fix the bugs that make the device much less stable for people who have
a disability. I know, at one time, Apple was in the forefront of
accessibility. I gave them high praise and they deserved it. But, as
some of my Mac user friends have said, they seem to have lately been
resting on their former reputation and less on getting it right the
first time. Obviously, they knew about all of these iOS bugs before
release. This is why they have beta testers who are blind and have low
vision. Yet, they decided that was more important to get it to people
who see, than to wait until it was just as ready for people who are
blind or have limited vision. Shame, shame, shame on you Apple, I
thought you were a better company than that. Put your development
where your mouth is and fix the many problem issues in iOS 8. Otherwise,
don't claim to be such a friend of people who are disabled.
