Another reason to keep your phone in a case with a built-in screen protevtor is to prevent mess to your screen while cooking. I use my phone to look at recipes, I don't have the cleanest hands when flicking through the recipe's steps. Of course, I don't do this if I've been handling raw meat products, but for everything else, I don't mind touching my phone if I have a few drips of something on my hand if I've got my phone in something like an OtterBox Defender.
