The Seeing Eye app works just fine in Canada. If you are curious you could get a 1-month subscription for $9.99 and try it out. I have done so and I like it a lot, but I really am not using a GPS app enough to pay the 3-year subscription which is the best deal. If you want something with excellent announcements of when you are just walking along as well as an app which can give you turn by turn directions if you want to go to a particular place then the Seeing Eye app is probably the best solution by a good margin. If you don't need turn by turn directions that often and are OK with a little less detail about things like intersections, then Blindsquare works really well. Seeing Eye app will give you such detail as whether the intersection is a 3-way or 4-way intersection and so on, very similar to what the Trekker or MobileGeo was like.
