This may not do anything, but just for the fun of it, try to triple tap it. I don't know why this seems to be an issue for some people, it almost sounds like the problem some have with not being able to activate the "Confirm Clear Section" button in the notification centre. I can double or split tap on the Send button for a text message either by swiping to it or by finding it abov the P and it works fine.
