You can have the voice on for the hour or all of the settings. You can also choose the sound. Usually, they won't work together. I had asked the developer a while back about counting the hour and he said that it was blocked by Apple for his type but, he was going to be looking into it with IOS8 changes. As you tap each of the settings, it will switch between none, voice and audio. There is a cuckoo app that works well for hourly and half hour counts. It is a little difficult to use and uses a real cuckoo bird rather than the type you normally hear with the clock. It does a lot of things but, as I said it is a little difficult to navigate. It's notes and web page are also not in English so, asking for info from the developer is a bit difficult.
