Hi, Perhaps she has automatic updates turned on? I do not know if updates work that way with the IOS if you have updates turned on or not. However, I have mine set for manual updates so that I control when I update my apps and the spouse lets her apps update automatically. Very often I will know when an app has been updated before she does and sometimes I will have an app updated before she is aware there is even one available and has the update on her phone. Incidentally, I have not been forced to update to IOS 8 yet.
