David, if your wife goes to Settings, General, About, and Version, does she have iOS 8.0.2 listed there? As others have said, Apple will download the latest iOS version to your device so it is available for update but you have to take specific action to authorize and install the update. In my case, my Settings, General, Software Update shows one item available which would be the most recent iOS 8.0.2 update. However, since I've not taken action to install that update, my Settings, General, About, and Version shows iOS 7.1.2.

By comparison, apple charges for their tech support, which my wife does not have, and there is no going back to the previous ios version. I think I like Microsoft's corporate policy better. Thoughts?
