App Store updates are automatic, but iOS8 will not install without the user's permission. It may download, but unless the user allows the process to continue, it will just wait until the user updates. Zoom is different, but to get the old method back, just go to Zoom's settings and choose "full screen" from the Zoom type near the bottom. The new method is one a lot of people seem to like - a square, inside of which is zoomed content.
